The Seagull

The Seagull

Presented by Austin Shakespeare at The Long Center: Debra & Kevin Rollins Studio Theatre

The Seagull is a masterpiece of 19th Century theater and defines the themes and structure that Chekhov used in all subsequent plays: the role of the artist, ensemble acting, realistic dialogue and complex characters. Set in the Russian countryside, the play explores the nature of art and love in a confining environment, leading the characters to introspection and self-discovery.

Austin Shakespeare’s production features the return of Matt Radford Davies as Trigorin against the company debut of Tyler Layton as Madame Arkadina. Austin Shakespeare regulars include: Helen Merino as Masha, Andrew Matthews as Konstantin, Corinna Browning as Nina and Ev Lunning as Sorin. Other familiar faces are Patrick David Wheeler as Shamarayev, Bobby Byers as Medvedenko and Jet Ryan as Yakov. First-time actors are Sarah Stuart as Polina and Chuck Winkler as Dr. Dorn.
