LAS PIÑATAS ATX hosted by AIA Austin Latinos in Architecture

LAS PIÑATAS ATX hosted by AIA Austin Latinos in Architecture

Presented by AIA Austin at Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center.

Las Piñatas ATX is an annual, Austin-original event where patrons can enjoy piñata-inspired art and free, locally purchased piñatas during the Mexican American Cultural Center (MACC) Dia de los Muertos festival on Saturday, October 21st. After a successful Open Call, which invited the community to submit their best artistic interpretations of piñatas, four winners have been commissioned. Team Deadly Sin, Team Runa Workshop, Team Los Good Hombres, and Team Huitzilopochtli’s art work will be on full display for the duration of the festival.

Originally conceived in 2015 after a local piñataría was unjustly demolished by a pair of out-of-town and out-of-touch property developers, Las Piñatas ATX has come to symbolize the resilience of Austin’s Hispanic and East Side residents. Led by AIA Austin’s Latinos in Architecture (LiA) committee, our mission is to promote opportunities for high-school aged students to learn about architecture and creative problem solving skills. Your generous donations help support the Latinos in Architecture Scholarship Fund which provides full tuition scholarships for the University of Texas School of Architecture Summer Academy.
