Austin Polish Film Festival

Austin Polish Film Festival

Presented by Austin Polish Society at AFS Cinema

The APFF 2017 features the latest award-winning films, including “Afterimage”, the last work of the acclaimed late Polish film director, Andrzej Wajda, who died in 2016 at the age of 90 soon after the release of this film.

Several directors, actors, and screenwriters will be in attendance during the Q&A sessions after the screenings. Among them, Ryszard Bugajski and Maria Mamona, who are bringing their latest film “Blindness”.

Agnieszka Holland’s 2017 film “Spoor” that is also Poland’s submission to the Oscar’s competition for the best foreign language film will be presented along with a documentary film about her, “Returns of Agnieszka H.” The document is created by Krystyna Krauze, who like Holland herself, is a graduate of a famous Prague film school, FAMU. Krauze will be a festival guest.

A psychological thriller, “Amok”, the latest film by Kasia Adamik, Agnieszka Holland’s daughter and collaborator, will also be screened.

“The Art of Loving” is another film made by a young female director. It is an adaptation of Michalina Wisłocka’s biography, the famous Polish gynecologist and sexologist, whose lifestyle guidebook The Art of Loving sold over 7 million copies in the 1970s, challenged and changed the communist era Polish sexuality taboos.

This is the third year of APFF International Short Film Competition open to film students and independent filmmakers. The winning entries will be screened and the winners announced during the festival.
Traditionally, a Polish Poster Art Exhibit including works by the renowned Polish artists is an integral part of the festival and will be open to the audience in the event hall at the AFS Cinema. The posters arrived from Poland sent by a collector and curator, Michał Poniż. There will be an opportunity to purchase some of the posters.

Children Program including Animated Movie “Storks” with Polish dubbing, as well as Polish themed arts and crafts will take place at 12.30 on Sunday November the 5th.

A reception with music and authentic Polish food prepared and presented by Apolonia Catering will be on Friday night, November 3rd from 6:30pm to 7pm.
