Part performance, part lecture, part therapy, Virginia comes to Austin to direct three local performers in a free and intimate sharing of Your Healing is Killing Me.
Your Healing is Killing Me is a performance manifesto based on lessons learned in San Antonio free health clinics and New York acupuncture schools. From the treatments and consejos of curanderas, abortion doctors, Marxist artists, community health workers, and bougie dermatologists.
Your Healing is Killing Me is published by Plays Inverse Press and was released in September 2017. In addition to the performance manifesto, the book also includes a forward by Dr. Deborah Vargas (Associate Professor of Ethnic Studies at UC Riverside), an afterword by Dr. Alan Gomez (Associate Professor of Justice and Social Inquiry, School of Social Transformation, at Arizona State University), and original illustrations by visual artist Zeke Peña.
