Invoke is Back!

Invoke is Back!

Presented by Beerthoven Concert Series at Austin Saengerrunde

Beerthoven is back bigger and better than ever with a fourth season of events that are sure to bring cheers, beers, and great music to your ears. And who better to open that season than one of our favorite groups–invoke!

Described by one pretty important radio guy as “not classical…but not not classical”, bowed and fretted string quartet invoke continues to successfully dodge even the most valiant attempts at genre classification. The multi-instrumental band’s other not-nots encompass traditions from across America, including bluegrass, Appalachian fiddle tunes, jazz, and minimalism. invoke weaves all of these traditions together to create truly unique contemporary string quartet repertoire, written by and for the group. Invoke is currently the Young Professional String Quartet in Residence at the University of Texas at Austin.

This program will feature Mark O’Connor’s String Quartet No. 2 “Bluegrass” as well as music by Ravel and original music by invoke.
Invoke’s return to Beerthoven will also be a return to music by Peter Schickele with his Piano Quintet No. 1, joined by Beerthoven Founder and Director Daniel Swayze at the piano.

In addition, free refreshments will be served at the show including beer from Lazarus Brewery, hand-made pretzels from Easy Tiger, wine, and more!

Beerthoven events are family-friendly; children are welcome! Our servers are TABC certified and will not serve alcohol to minors.

$10 student rush tickets will be available at the door.

Performances September 15th at 7:00 pm and September 17th at 3:00 pm.

The Beerthoven Concert Series is a down-to-earth, approachable celebration of classical song and chamber music; a quirky mixture of Oktoberfest and Bach Fest, presented in a unique and intimate setting. Beerthoven finds its inspiration from the musical and festive events at the Austin Saengerrunde as well as the private “salon” concerts of Beethoven’s own time. All Beerthoven events feature snacks, drinks, and live classical music, all included with admission. There is no backstage area here; audience members may even find themselves standing in line for beer with the performers. The Beerthoven Concert Series is a Sponsored Project of the Austin Creative Alliance. Beerthoven is made possible through the support of the Austin Saengerrunde and individual benefactors.
