Gender Unbound Art Fest

Gender Unbound Art Fest

Presented by Gender Portraits at Vuka North Lamar

Gender Unbound is a one-day festival that features transgender and intersex creators. Prepare for a vibrant night of music, film, performance, visual art, and beverages by JuiceLand and Dripping Springs Vodka.

Our visual artists span from the realistic, expressive paintings of New Hampshire artist, Catherine Graffam, to the ethereal visual work Austin artist, Jonah Welch. Our jam-packed stage lineup includes Little Thief, Lazarus Letcher, Krudas Cubensi, and more. We are also proud to be debuting new episodes of the YouTube docu-series, Roaming Gender, by Scout Fernandez in our film room. A full lineup can be found at www.genderunbound.org.

The Gender Unbound Art Fest is a community event for healing and celebration through creative expression. While this is an event for entertainment, the night also offers a rare opportunity for the general public to learn about sex and gender minorities in a context outside of celebrity coming out stories and bathroom legislation. We want people to see that trans and intersex people are talented, complex human beings who are tangible rather than hypothetical stereotypes. We encourage the general public to come ready to listen, learn, and be impressed.

The event is run by Gender Portraits, a sponsored nonprofit project of Austin Creative Alliance that documents and advocates for gender diverse people through art. Gender Unbound is supported in part by the City of Austin Cultural Arts Division Economic Development Department and the Awesome Foundation Austin.
