The Dougherty Arts School is a community-based arts organization focused on developing creativity in a multidisciplinary environment.
We offer a range of classes to ages from three years to senior adults in the following media: drawing, painting, darkroom and digital photography, ceramics, jewelry and metals, textiles, movement, art appreciation, literary arts, digital design and animation, music, theater and more.
The Dougherty Arts School’s mission is to provide quality and multi-discipline arts education programs for all ages through collaborations at all levels by educating students as future skilled workers, innovative leader, and professional artists who make valued contributions to society.

Learn more about the production of artworks for public places including an overview of budgeting, engineering, site selection, and proposal preparation. This six-week class encourages research and provides students with opportunities to learn from accomplished public artists. The class will give an in depth look at the Public Art application process, while students work to put together their own submission package.
Instructor: Jean Graham
BA, New College; MFA, University of Michigan. After a career as a studio artist Jean spent 10 years organizing, designing, and curating exhibitions for Austin Museum of Art (The Contemporary Austin). Subsequently she spent 15 years managing public art projects for the City of Austin Art in Public Places program and managed the People’s Gallery exhibition at Austin City Hall. Jean’s artwork is included in public and private collections and she completed several community-based public art projects in her Austin neighborhood.
