MamaJama Productions was conceived in the late 1980’s at Oberlin College in Ohio. From improvised performances in Germany to playing with Oberlin’s Chamber Orchestra at Lincoln Center, classmates Jessica Gilliam-Valls and Sally Barr knew that they had aspirations beyond the recital, orchestra, and soloist paths alone. Gilliam- Valls and Barr’s curiosity and boundless love of music would lead them beyond the classical world to place that afforded them the influence of many genres. As their
