AUSTIN, TX—Mexic-Arte Museum is thrilled to announce the date for the annual Viva la Vida Festival on October 31, 2015 from 12:00pm – 8:00pm in downtown Austin. This year, Austin’s largest and longest-running Day of the Dead event and features a grand procession, artist vendors, live music, a grand sugar skull piñata float by local piñata artisans Monica and Sergio Lejarazu, an exhibition with community altars inside the Museum, and educational programs. Attendees can also enjoy food from Chi’Lantro and Veracruz All Natural, hands-on art activities, and special performances by Tiarra Girls, DJ Chorizo Funk, Gina Chavez, and more! The 2015 event is co-sponsored by the City of Austin.

VIVA LA VIDA GRAND PROCESSION
Date: October 31, 2015
Parade staging: 11:00 a.m.
Parade launch: 12:00 noon
Route: The parade will gather on 6th street between Chicon and Comal, and travel an entire mile west on 6th street to the festival location on 4th and Congress.
Special Parade Component: This year’s festival and parade will celebrate the history and craft of the piñata. Bring your favorite piñata props and costumes.
CALL FOR PARADE PARTICIPANTS & VOLUNTEERS
Participants are needed for all sections of the parade, including pre-Columbian, Mexico Lindo, and Austin Weird. People of all ages dressed in skeleton costumes, families, university groups, portable altars, noise makers, chihuahuas, Aztec dancers, samba dancers, Ballet Folkloricos, and colorfully decorated cars will gather and assemble a joyful procession.
