Through Her Eyes: The Impressionist Work of Anna Stanley

This fall, the Neill-Cochran House Museum will present a retrospective exhibition of the work of the late 19th century American painter Anna Stanley.

This unique opportunity to view Impressionist work in Austin brings together a broad cross-section of Ms. Stanley’s work in watercolor and oil.  The exhibit will encourage the viewer to see the world through the artist’s eyes, and to walk with her through the United States, France, Holland, and East Asia around 1900.

Stanley, who trained at The Pennsylvania Academy of The Fine Arts in Philadelphia and at the Academie Julian in Paris, exhibited at the Paris Salon and in many public exhibitions in the United States from the late 1880s through the 1890s.  A daughter and ultimately wife of career military officers, Stanley moved frequently, always recording her impressions of her surroundings.

This exhibit will be on view in our gallery and free with museum admission from September 5 through December 21.
