The residency will culminate in a public event of discussion on the topic of “The Art or Making Dancers” with a panel of experts: Toni Bravo, DSDT director; Kaysie Seltz Brown, from Texas State University; Orlando Canova, from Ballet Austin; Rae Collins, Wimberly gorgeous dance teacher; and Maria Naidu, Malmö-based guest artist.
Maria Naidu is a multi-faceted performing artist whose long career has touched several different areas within dance and theater.
She is a graduate of the Balettakademien in Gothenburg (SE) 1983-85 and at later at Alvin Ailey American Dance Center in New York City where she lived and worked in thirteen year, eight of which she danced with Jenifer Muller’s THE WORKS.
Maria strives to make dance art accessible and accessible to a broad audience without sacrificing artistic quality.
Her artistry is founded in a deep passion for dance art, a strong confidence in its ability to communicate boundless and permeated by curiosity and desire.
Maria’s work has been shown in 14 countries on five continents. She has worked as a rehearsal director for NorrDans in Härnösand (2002) and Carte Blanche in Bergen, Norway (2009-11) and choreographed for theater and opera performances (Norrlandsoperan, Vadstenaakademien, Raseborgsoperaförening, Malmö Opera, Malmö City Theater, Theater 23, Theater Academy Malmö, Helsingborg City Theater, Moomsteatern)
