Tapestry Singers' Fall Concert: The First 30 Years

Tapestry Singers, Austin’s Women’s Chorus, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this fall with a compilation of the choir’s greatest hits from the past three decades. Since 1987, Tapestry Singers has encouraged women, regardless of race, color, sexual identity, or vocal confidence, to explore their singing abilities and experience the joy and healing that comes from music and singing.

Concert program includes: “And Ain’t I A Woman” with words by African-American abolitionist and civil right’s activist, Sojourner Truth, “Alto’s Lament” by William Bowlus, a light-hearted piece about the Alto’s eternal desire for their turn in the melodic spotlight, “The Seal Lullaby”, an oceanic lullaby by Eric Whitacre, and “Love Song For Women” by Tapestry’s founder Ruth Huber.  It will be an assortment of pieces recognizing the daily societal challenges faced by women while celebrating the strength and courage of overcoming them.
