Gillo Pontecorvo’s masterpiece about the revolutionary uprising against French colonial forces in Algeria. A work of remarkable technical ingenuity, it heralded the cinema verite experiments of the ’60s and ’70s and was used as a training film by the Black Panther Party. Now newly restored, this is a film that shows us a side of history the history books do not.
