Devi School of Dance presents Nauka Charitram or lovingly known as Krishna’s Opera.
Krishna is considered pure consciousness or the supreme self. In this abridged production, the great saint Thyagaraja’s (1800’s), Nauka Charitram, is re-told through dance in a margam format.
This is an enchanting production which features the classical Indian dance form, bharatanatyam. This particular style incorporates a flowing, sensual nature leading to an unyielding quality which creates a beautiful balance for both the dancer and the audience . The expressive nature of this drama (abhinaya) is portrayed in a manner in which the audience can follow the story clearly and thus become a part of it. This will be performed by Preya Mangalat Patel, director of the Devi School of Dance and has been choreographed by Srimati Padmini Ravi in Bangalore, India.
The 2nd half of the show features children from our community who participated in a workshop leading up to this show. They will have their first main stage performance! Austins very own Oliver Rajamani will be joining the performance with his melodic and hypnotizing Indian folk songs set to flamenco rhythmic patterns. Devi School students will also be performing.
This project is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the The City of Austin Economic Development and Austin Creative Alliance.
