Good Mourning Tis of Thee

A conceptual group art exhibition curated by artist Alyssa Taylor Wendt and CoLab’s Sean Gaulager, showcases work from over 65 national artists addressing ideas of death, grief and transformation.

Good Mourning Tis of Thee, an expansive group art installation directed and curated by the multimedia artist Alyssa Taylor Wendt and Co-Lab Projects’ Executive Director and Curator Sean Gaulager, will show work from over 65 artists and performers from Texas, New York, Detroit and Seattle. This interactive exhibition will address topical issues such as grief, loss, death, architecture and urban development. Opening Reception:
Friday, October 13th, 7-11pm

Friday the 13th is the opening reception with artists in attendance and a performance by Ryan Hawk.

Panel Discussion:
In the Round: Death and Urban Renewal
Sunday, October 15th, 4-6pm
Moderated by Andrea Mellard from The Contemporary Austin, DEMO Gallery will host this panel discussion as part of the extensive group exhibition Good Mourning Tis of Thee in conjunction with the curator and artist Alyssa Taylor Wendt. The conversation will address the lack of mourning rituals in American culture, both in terms of our fear of death and the rapid gentrification of our urban centers. Panel members include: Miss Wendt; Michael Anthony Garcia, Los Outsiders curator and artist; Benjy Russell, artist; Murray Legge, architect; Spencer Dobbs, artist and mortician; Dr. Randy Lewis, professor of American Studies; Austin Nelsen, Developer and Co-Lab Projects Director of Development and Angela Reed, TX Historical Commission.
