“FROM COMBAT TO ART”
The Artemis Group
Austin, Travis County – October 7, 2015 – The George Washington Carver Museum will exhibit mixed medium works by women veterans from all branches of military service. World War II veterans to active duty military compose this intergenerational group of artists ranging in age from 30 to 90.
The Artemis group will exhibit in the Main Artist Gallery from October 22 – November 14, 2015. The exhibition opening will be held on Thursday October 29, 2015 at 6:30pm.
Kim Layne, LAC, Director of Integrative Medicine at the Samaritan Center, Pam Ferguson, Global Instructor of Asian Bodywork Therapy and Annie McMillin, decorated army veteran and artist, are the co-creators of the Artemis Group.
The group – named after the Greek Goddess of healing- meets twice monthly at the Samaritan Center to give women veterans a chance to explore their experiences. Utilizing diverse mediums from Zentangle to skull painting, verse and oil the Artemis group encourages healing through artmaking and open discussion.
Described as non-therapy therapy, the group addresses PTSD as well as everyday life and health challenges in a supportive setting.
This event is free and open to the public with reception to follow. All exhibiting artists will be present.
