The Mobile Art Program has been helping seniors in the Austin area cope with depression, isolation and loneliness since August 2007. The process of creating art can reduce anxiety, allay fears, combat isolation and most importantly, help people who are often viewed as representatives of their age and/or disease, rather than the unique individuals they are. Art included in this exhibit was made by participants from AGE of Central Texas Early Memory Loss Program, the Conley-Guerrero Senior Acitivty Center, Maggie Johnson Nursing Center, and Riverside Rehabilitation with special guest Lawrence Brooks of Glouchester, MA. The AGE EML participants also worked with a professional writer from Badgerdog, a community-based creative writing program of the Austin Public Library Friends Foundation. Badgerdog supports the Austin Public Library by increasing awareness and enhancing library programs, collections, and facilitates. The Badgerdog Creative Writing Program works with people of all ages and skill levels to improve writing skills, foster an appreciation for literary art, and amplify the voices of Central Texans. Selected writings from the EML participants will be included in the exhibit.
