On Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 11am-12pm, we’ll be exploring the picture books “The Dark” and “Boo Stew” and “Crickwing.”
“The Dark” Written by Lemony Snicket, illustrated by Jon Klassen, 2013.
“Laszlo is afraid of the dark. The dark is not afraid of Laszlo. Lasxlo lives in a house. The dark lives in the basement. One night, the dark comes upstairs to Laszlo’s room, and Laszlo goes down to the basement. This is the story of how Laszlo stops being afraid of the dark.”
“Boo Stew” Written by Donna L. Washington, illustrated by Jeffrey Ebbeler, 2021.
“Curly Locks is a good-hearted girl – and an awful cook. All of the townsfolk know to steer clear of her culinary concoctions. “Crickwing never set out to be a bully – all he wanted was to create his art in peace. But it’s not easy being different. A cockroach with a cricked wing and flair for sculpture is a ready target for the bigger creatures in the forest. Crickwing just wants to even the score…and leafcutter ants are so easy to pick on. Big mistake. Nobody angers the leafcutter queen and gets away with it. In this epic adventure beneath the foliage, Crickwing and the leafcutters go head-to-head. Then a swarm of ferocious army ants threatens, and suddenly everyone is in danger. Crickwing has to do something, but what? He’s an artist, not a fighter. What the leafcutters need is a hero. Or, maybe, a cockroach with a really clever idea…”
