A filmmaker returns after 35 years to a tiny, rural, Virginia town to finish telling the story of Earl Gilmore—self-taught musician, coal miner, African-American, devoutly Christian, and queer.
Clips and discussion with Austin documentary director, Andrew Garrison, about his work in progress, BECAUSE I’M HERE, a film about Earl Gilmore–rural, African-American, self-taught musician, coal miner, carnival hoochie-coochie dancer, Ford Fellow, devoutly Christian, and queer. Presented in part with support from the Austin Division of Cultural Arts. the Virginia Foundation for the humanities, and Austin Network Mixer.
