Come and enjoy a 5 week class on how to develp a methodology and score for site-dance; site-specific, site-inspired, non traditional space, site-adapting.
Through improvisational and choreographic methods we will work as individuals and as a collaborative group toward 1 site-specific dance that we all participate in and will be open to the public.
Who is this class for? For performers who want a guided studio/class experiece with hands on feedback and instruction from me (Ellen Bartel) on devloping a score, journaling movement, using primarey and secondary sourses in site-research, content develpment, movement/sound/visual development, sharing and providing feedback with peers, and public oudoor performance.
Perticipants must have movement/dance experience or have taken one improvisaiton class. Participants need to have knowlege about creating a performance work. This however can be open to musicians who want to work with sound scapes within this process as well as video designers, but you will need permisssion and a short coversation with me first. Message me about that if you are intersted in participating other than dance.
Why am I qualified to teach this course? Well, it was my MFA thesis, I have one UT improvisation/site-dance course under my belt, I have created/choreographed several contemporary dance peices on site or about a location, and I have literally performed hundreds of improvisations in alternative spaces (bu toh, slow motion and other) that were open to the public. I have a lot to offer, and hopefully inspire each participant to build upon. I don’t have THE way to make site-dance, I have A way to make site dance.
I am reserving 4 studio sessions and 4 site-sessions.

Saturday July 16th site (time tbd at the first class)
Thursday July 21 7-9:30 studio
Thursday July 28th 7-9:30 site (the time can change if needed)
Saturday July 30th 3:00-5:00 Studio
Thursday Aug 4th 7:9:30- Studio
August 11th 7-9:30 site ( the time can change if needed)
Saturday Aug 13th site 3:00-5:00 but it can be flexible
