Lys Santamaria

Lys Santamaria believes her beadwork is her own personal way of healing and meditation and that art can heal by bringing joy into people’s lives. It is her mission to share that with the world.

For years, Santamaria has spent time living and traveling abroad independently. She was born in Colombia and grew up in Canada and the United States. While in Canada, the First Nations people shared their traditional beading techniques with her. Since then, she has been painting with beads by weaving hundreds of tiny beads into fabric to create 2D artwork, sculpture and jewelry. She incorporates ancient techniques into her work to create non-traditional pieces that are simple yet intricate. Significant life events, people and places inspire her work. All artwork and jewelry is 100% handcrafted by Lys Santamaria in her home studio in Austin, Texas.
