Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance brings the rich heritage of Puerto Rico to Austin with a full-length live music and dance production that passes on a heritage to a new generation and showcases more than 50 dancers, musicians, and performing arts students.

      08/30/08- Ongoing	Beginner/Intermediate Percussion Class Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance and Cultural Center Beginner/Intermediate Percussion Class Presented by Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance at Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance and Cultural Center August 30, 2008 - Ongoing This music class for beginners (ages 10+) teaches tradional percussion rhythms from Puerto Rico, such as Bomba and Plena, as well as other afro-caribeean percussive rhythms relevant to our culture.  Instruments taught include barriles, panderos, and small percussion.  Lessons on Puerto Rican food, language, history, and more are added to enhance the base apperciation of Puerto Rican culture.  Semester culminates in a recital in May (spring) and...
      08/30/08- Ongoing	Youth Traditional Dance & Culture Programs Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance and Cultural Center Youth Traditional Dance & Culture Programs Presented by Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance at Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance and Cultural Center August 30, 2008 - Ongoing We offer three levels of Youth Traditional Dance (Youth Beginner/Intermediate, Youth Intermediate/Advanced and Teens/Advanced) that teach folkloric dances such as Bomba, Plena, Seis and Danza. We also teach modern social dances (like salsa and hip hop) that are relevant to our culture to help youth connect the past to the present and enjoy dancing at family celebrations. Classes start with the basics and build on previous lessons to create full-length choreographies for performance....

This beginner/ intermediate level class, taught by our amazing cuatrista Adam Rosario, will teach you basic technique, as well as interpretation and execution of various traditional styles ranging from seis and aguinaldo, to plena, to bailes de salon.
