The word "ONWARD" extends across the grassy field at the center of the Health and Human Services campus - each 30' wide letter is comprised of steel landscape edging seeded with wildflowers. The "O" rises from the ground. A planted line of native Texas grasses winds in a pattern through the field, increasing in height as they extend outward to the edge of the site. The size of each arc in the pattern is proportional to the population of Austin by decade since 1903. This was the first year that official records were kept at the Office of Vital Records - an office currently located at the campus.
