    NEWS: The Latino Comedy Project has been Nominated for an Emmy!

    DESCRIPTION: Last spring, the LCP wrote, co-wrote and were featured in several MTV3 commercials as well as a series of “Rants” commenting on Latino life and culture (scroll down: several of the spots are posted below). The campaign ran from September 2008 to January 2009.  The Latino Comedy Project’s comedy ad campaign for MTV3 was nominated last week for an Emmy!  They will be performing in Austin June 11th - 13th.

    NEWS: Workshops Discussing Application Process for the City of Austin New Applicants Program

    DESCRIPTION: The City of Austin Cultural Arts Division is accepting funding in our New Applicants category with an application deadline of May 1.  Please  look at the New Applicants program.  It's pretty similar to Community Initiatives, but you can ask for $5,000 instead of $3,000.  The application process is also a little more involved.
     
    There will be two workshops on Monday, March 23 discussing the application process.  One is at 12:30 and the other is at 5:30 PM.  Both are in the City Hall Boards & Commissions Room.  They are not mandatory, but they may help you in the application process.

    NEWS: Local Austin Playwright Monica Bustamonte's play Thirst: a spell for Christabel will open in New York City in March

    DESCRIPTION: Thirst: a spell for Christabel retells Samuel Taylor Coleridge's gothic story in an abandoned forest suffering from an apocalyptic drought. Christabel and her father, stubborn hold-outs in the dying woods, are visited by a mysterious and opportunistic woman who quickly transforms their quiet world. Soon they must choose between her frightening, seductive promises and the quickly diminishing safety of the life they've always known.

    NEWS: Film Industry Rally at the Capitol on March 4th

    DESCRIPTION: PLEASE JOIN US ON MARCH 4th to Rally the Capitol! On Wednesday morning, March 4th, we will gather en masse on the south steps of the Capitol Building in Austin to voice our support for a competitive film and visual media incentive package. Rally begins at 7:30am, and yes we know it’s early, but treat it like a call time to set! Governor Rick Perry will come and speak to us at 7:45, so be sure to arrive in time for that! Please wear RED to show the state of emergency we are facing! Red dress shirts, red blouses, red dresses, etc. Don’t come to the capitol in a worn-out, faded red t-shirt!
