Folklore y Ritmos was founded in 2002 by Marta McInnis, who serves as director and choreographer. The dance company is a vehicle for cultural exchange that pays tribute to its members’ Panamanian roots and traditions. The dance ensemble’s countless performances across Texas showcases costumes corresponding to the different Panamanian regions represented in the various dances. It also has formed a junior ensemble to instill the love for the culture within its young members. Highlights of Folklore and Ritmos’ performances over the years: • The City of Austin’s Trail of Lights at Zilker Park, 2002. • The Benefit for Volunteers of the Health Clinic at the Student Union of the University of Texas at Austin, 2004. • St. Edward’s University’s Hispanic Heritage Day, 2004. • The Dallas/Forth Worth Panamanian Association’s annual Independence Day celebration, 2005. • The Third Annual Multicultural Conference and Fair for the Central U.S. Post Office in Austin, 2006. • The Annual Spanish Heritage Month program at the Ft.
