Celtic Cultural Center of Texas

The Celtic Cultural Center is organized to operate a charitable center for the benefit of the Celtic Community and to act as an umbrella organization to house and support local Celtic groups. The Corporation will endeavor to promote and preserve the history, music, art, dance, language and literature of the Irish, Scottish, and Welsh immigrants of the United States and their generations.

      This was my first year to this event. I will do my best not to make it my last. Starting with pipes & drums we experienced an evening of Celtic vocal and instrumental spectral bliss. Moving back & forth between the sacred, jigs, folk, dance and comedy I danced in my pew, clapped, sang and reminisced about other Christmases that touched on things Celtic. The artists’ performances were generally relaxed yet, at the same time, precise, rich, and full of good cheer and deep passion. For me, there was not one defining moment but the whole experience that made the evening an evening to remember. The venue is beautiful but frankly this event is growing beyond its walls though, as I write this, I don't think I know how I would change anything there is an intimacy and beauty that any larger facility would be hard to duplicate.       Celtic Christmas at the Cathedral was a feast for the senses. After opening with The Silver Thistle Pipes and Drums, each subsequent piece raised the bar, making for a spectacular evening. There were readings and stories, vocal and instrumental music, audience participation and a broom dance to the delight of all. My particular favorites were Mairtin De Cogain - he sang, he danced, he drummed, and Ed Miller - such a warm voice and inviting presence. St. Mary's Cathedral, at 10th and San Jacinto, provided a space worthy of the music and the Schola Cantorum, directed by Dr. Jeffrey Jones-Ragona, sang several wonderful arrangements. The evening was sold out. Don't miss it next year. Collapse
