      Interesting play....but mostly fiction. Unfortunately, the girls who rushed this play onto the circuit neglected to do research and built the format around gossip and guesses instead of fact. Since they begin the play with the disclaimer "fiction built on historic fact", it is hard to hold them accountable for this unfortunate and grossly false retelling of Grace and Jack Jones life. Those of us who knew Grace and Jack personally were shocked at the performance, wondering how Laurel Aarsvold and Diana Richardson could have gone so wrong. Collapse

      Yesterday, PinkFingerMonster and the human girl (photographer) headed north from Austin and arrived at the coolest little performance stage, the Salado Silver Spur Theater, which is a converted feed & seed building. This was a great little play about the life and legacy of Ms. Grace Jones; WWII Womens Air Force Service Pilot, fashion icon, world traveler, Salado business owner, and community leader. Grace led an extraordinary life and impacted many people along the way. The story toggles between her last days as a feisty woman in her late eighties battling Alzheimer's disease and her early years as a vibrant female pioneer. Old Grace and young Grace are able to speak to each other in their own time-lines and through this dialogue we learn about her life. The audience was filled with many people who knew Grace personally. I felt that it was an important story for local residents that surely missed her as well as for the historical value. Collapse

      Yesterday, PinkFingerMonster and the human girl (photographer) headed north from Austin and arrived at the coolest little community performance stage, the Salado Silver Spur Theater, which is a converted feed & seed building.       Ten percent of the proceeds of this weekend's performances (May 15-16) will go to the Heart of Texas Chapter of the American Red Cross (ARC) (http://www.waco.redcross.org/) for supplies and resources for the victims of the recent flooding in downtown Nashville. ARC volunteers from Killeen, Temple and Waco will be in attendance to accept additional cash contributions. Any donated canned goods or blankets, however, will be stored for use in Central Texas disasters, since such supplies cannot be shipped at this time. "Countergirls," which is having its Texas premiere, runs weekends through May 22 with performances at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Admission prices are $15 for adults; $12 for senior citizens, military personnel and students with ID; and $8 for children ages 12 and under for the evening shows. For the matinee, $10 for adults; $8 for all others. Group rates are available. For reservations, call the box office at 254-947-3456. Collapse

      When is it acceptable to break the "invisible fourth wall" between actors and audience? Just about all the time for "Jingle Bell Broadcast," the holiday comedy at Silver Spur. Patrons are the audience for the onstage WSPR radio station staffers scrambling to save their live holiday broadcast. The stage apron is no barrier to this acting ensemble. Children love the slapstick comedy and general goofiness, while the adults appreciate the jokes, songs, skills and story. Laughs are plentiful. “Never seen anything quite like it," said one person. "JBB" takes audiences back to the "Golden Age of Radio" with a sleigh-full of holiday hilarity because theyre right in "the studio audience" for the music, merriment and memorable, mirthful staging of an "on-the-air" variety show. It’s Christmas Eve at the small station. Production crew and maintenance staff prepare for a live Yule show. Faced with a last-minute no-show by performers and news the station faces closure, hilarity ensues. Collapse

      I don't know when I have enjoyed a play as much as The Foreigner. I would gladly come watch it again. The little guy was extremely talented, as were the other actors. When you get lost in a play and shut the world out, it is a testimony that is was well done. I would quickly reccommend to all my friends to enjoy this show. Collapse
