BookPeople began in 1970 in the student slum district at the edge of the University of Texas, Austin as Grok Books. An outpost for the literate in what was then a rural reading wasteland, Grok flourished, expanding over time into BookPeople. In the contemporary wasteland of two-centimeter culture and chained commerce, BookPeople remains a refuge for the contemplative, a place where it's still possible to find a good book and someone irreverent with whom to discuss it. Eschewing elitism, BookPeople also sells the other books.

      BookPeople know how to do it right! They served Mimosas and Landolt and Barrett spoke about their books. The real treat was when Landolt got everyone in the audience involved and sharing their own stories about relationships. My friends and I had a great time, and Landolt was especially entertaining and fun. Barrett was sick and announced she was leaving early (but then I saw her later. Not sure what happened with her). We really enjoyed it and recommend Landolt for Good Man Hunting and for future events for her next book! Collapse
