Georgetown Palace Theatre, Inc. (GPTI), is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission of preserving, restoring, enhancing, and maintaining the Palace Theatre as a state-of-the-art performing arts center and meeting facility for Williamson County. Located at 810 South Austin Avenue in Georgetown, Texas (about 25 miles north of Austin), the Palace was built in 1925 by A. C. Moore of Bartlett, Texas.

      Benjamin Blaise did a fine job as Buddy Holly! Act 1 was a lot of fun. Cody Eastman as the Radio Announcer was extremely entertaining. Act 2 could still use some work, but as they seem to be selling tickets weeks in advance, they'll have plenty of time to do so! I was disappointed though in the role of Maria Elena Santiago. Maria Elena is Puerto Rican and for whatever reason, no accent was used. The believability went out the window, and the 'jokes' in the script fell flat. The use of the actor's real names throughout the show was also disappointing and broke the fourth wall. There is some good music happening though. Kudos to the music director and band! Collapse

      Georgetown Theatre's Singin' in the Rain is a musical comdey extravaganza! It's a cute story about the advent of "talkie" cinema. Georgetown Palace Theatre goes all out to make this one show you won't soon forget. The cast is large and at times the stage seems positively crowded. The costumes are perfect, and probably my favorite part of the show. The songs are familiar and well-performed. The finale is spectacular with singing, dancing, and raining on stage. We left the theatre singing and dancing to our car. A most enjoyable performance. Collapse

The costumes and sets enhance top-notch direction, choreography, and casting. Georgetown is quickly becoming THE musical theatre in Central Texas.       In Singing in the Rain it is what everyone ends up doing! They are making it rain again in Georgetown. Seems they have another sold out show. They do a lot of excellent shows out at the Palace. The technical difficulties are sometimes distracting, but keep a lot of interest, of the smoke and mirrors variety. Very enjoyable performances (to brag a bit – an old student of mine – Chris Bishop) and fun people who happen to dance make this an entertaining show. It would seem to prove that high quality community-theater is possible. This one has a big budget and stalwart crew support that lets them put on interesting projects. So they do manage to attract some really experienced players who find this a great venue. The four leads are very enjoyable to watch. It does seem backward to be making a play from a movie. So it does make it a bit awkward in spots. But it seems a good time can be had while sticking your foot in it – a puddle! Collapse

      Georgetown Palace's production of Singin' in the Rain, based on the movie with the same title, had some hard shoes to fill. Based on the emergence of talking films and the impact in Hollywood, this script adds a humorous and real spin with likable characters and upbeat dance numbers. The real standout in Sara Burke, playing the lead Kathy Selden. Her voice is magnificent and she carried the numbers with ease and fluidity. Other standouts were the always energizing ensemble member Suzanne Orzech and the stage crew for cleaning up so efficiently after the the surprising real water rain scene on stage. Although the dance numbers seemed to struggle a bit, I applaud Ron Watson for tackling this work and think audiences of all ages will enjoy seeing the production. Collapse

      Watching the Georgetown Palace’s production of Singin’ in the Rain, I was reminded not only of the Gene Kelly film, but also of the recent Oscar winner, The Artist. Both shows are set in Hollywood, and make comedy out of the transition to talkies. Jim Lindsay and Kevin Oliver carried the show as former vaudevillians succeeding in Hollywood, but the real shining star in this production was the poised Sara Burke, a talented dancer and singer. Although a few shortcuts in the scene changes might have helped the pacing of the first half, the production was overall very impressive. The audience really seemed to enjoy the silent movie re-creations and the rain effect during the “big song!” Collapse

      Singing In The Rain splashed across the stage of the Georgetown Palace Theater Friday evening to a packed house. As top silent film stars, Lina and Don, attend the premiere of their newest flick: it’s a sea of red carpet, glitzy gowns, adoring fans and popping flash bulbs. The story unfolds, “talkies” are taking over, and the studio must figure out what to do with their money-maker’s (Laura Galt as a perfect Lina) squeaky voice. Kathy Selden sings like an angel - so with the decision to dub her in over Lina - the war between the two is on. The singing and dancing skills of actors Jim Lindsay, Sara Burke and Kevin Oliver are top-notch, tapping their way through the numbers. Kevin as Cosmo steals every scene he’s in – his physical slap-stick and comedic timing can’t be matched. The crew did an amazing job of creating the silent films for the show, and the rain – we have rain on the stage! Come and see if you can guess the secret – but don’t wait too long, or the rain will be gone! Collapse

      The Palace Theatre took on Wizard of Oz-a classic flick-which I simply adore. The Scarecrow and Tin Man are standouts, though I wish I could've focused on them more without the distraction of children dressed as apples or crows. Speaking of children, the Munchkins who litter the Munchkinland are very cute...and there are a lot of them so there is never a dull moment during this scene! The Wizard of Oz is a huge undertaking and it looks like the Palace has put tons of money into it. However, the scene changes are long & clunky, the choreography at times is superfluous, and the magic of the tornado & witch melting is lost. It is a fine attempt!!! And the Austin Pets Alive Toto is worth the price of admission!!! Collapse

      WIZARD OF OZ production at the PALACE THEATRE in Georgetown is a show that you will not want to miss and be sure to bring the kids! With witches flying through the air and munchkins everywhere, this show really brings The Wizard of Oz to life. Rose Yurcina who portrayed DOROTHY GALE, had a beautiful voice and her rendition of OVER THE RAINBOW brought tears to my eyes. I also loved THE SCARECROW, played by Diego A Flores. His physicality was fun to watch. And, then the Lion, the COWARDLY LION, played by Robert Josef Cross. What can be said about the Lion? He was superb, his voice portrayed the Cowardly Lion perfectly. It is fun for everyone. I encourage everyone to make it out. Definitely one of my favorite productions of the year! Collapse
