Georgetown Palace Theatre, Inc. (GPTI), is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission of preserving, restoring, enhancing, and maintaining the Palace Theatre as a state-of-the-art performing arts center and meeting facility for Williamson County. Located at 810 South Austin Avenue in Georgetown, Texas (about 25 miles north of Austin), the Palace was built in 1925 by A. C. Moore of Bartlett, Texas.

      The Palace Theatre took on Wizard of Oz-a classic flick-which I simply adore. The Scarecrow and Tin Man are standouts, though I wish I could've focused on them more without the distraction of children dressed as apples or crows. Speaking of children, the Munchkins who litter the Munchkinland are very cute...and there are a lot of them so there is never a dull moment during this scene! The Wizard of Oz is a huge undertaking and it looks like the Palace has put tons of money into it. However, the scene changes are long & clunky, the choreography at times is superfluous, and the magic of the tornado & witch melting is lost. It is a fine attempt!!! And the Austin Pets Alive Toto is worth the price of admission!!! Collapse

      WIZARD OF OZ production at the PALACE THEATRE in Georgetown is a show that you will not want to miss and be sure to bring the kids! With witches flying through the air and munchkins everywhere, this show really brings The Wizard of Oz to life. Rose Yurcina who portrayed DOROTHY GALE, had a beautiful voice and her rendition of OVER THE RAINBOW brought tears to my eyes. I also loved THE SCARECROW, played by Diego A Flores. His physicality was fun to watch. And, then the Lion, the COWARDLY LION, played by Robert Josef Cross. What can be said about the Lion? He was superb, his voice portrayed the Cowardly Lion perfectly. It is fun for everyone. I encourage everyone to make it out. Definitely one of my favorite productions of the year! Collapse

      Frank Baum's original book, "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" has had many musical spinoffs, movie adaptions, musical adaptations, and a spin on the Oz world in Gregory Maguire's "Wicked" series. Even after all of that, the core of the story in Baum's book has proved its resilience, and the 1939 movie musical version with Judy Garland remains the most beloved, and the majority of stage adaptations use the movie version as the blueprint. Georgetown Palace's production likewise does so, with an admirable result. It's a charming production with visually striking sets and impressive vocal talents. All of the principals embody their roles quite well; I particularly enjoyed Robert Josef Cross's performance as the Cowardly Lion. The children's chorus did a good job as the munchkins and Witch's guards. Since Wizard of Oz is so familiar to so many people, the production won't hold any surprises, but it is charming and well worth seeing, nonetheless. Collapse

      My husband and I saw Cabaret this past weekend and while the Kit Kat Girls didn't live up to the darkness needed for this time period - the lead characters certainly did! The honesty between Schultz and Schneider of what people went through living during that time rang so very true. The angst of Sally Bowles was so believable. I got sucked in by Ms. Duvall's performance. The Emcee, Josh Wechsler, has the voice of an angel, yet left me feeling very uneasy about the story. As his character should! VERY well done. Stand out performances by Ismael Soto as Ludwig, Matthew Burnett as Cliff and Cathie Sheridan as Kost. I wanted so much more of each of these fine singing actors! I wish the Kit Kat Girls (and Boys) had a better understanding of what a person performing in these clubs would have looked like and put across to their audience. But maybe the costuming and choreography didn't help them with that. Regardless, we're going back and taking friends. Solid lead performances. Collapse

      I was hesitant to see one of my favorite musicals at The Palace; I feared they would clean it up. While I do think the Kit Kat Girls came off too nice and showgirlish (the choreography seemed to be at fault), the leads in this show made up for what was lacking. Josh Wechsler as the Emcee was an amazing combination of creepy and endearing and has a voice I would never tire hearing. Chelsea DuVall as Sally Bowles left her heart on the floor vocally and character wise (she could have used a little restraint in act 2 to show the inner turmoil- personal preference). Melita McAtee and Kyle Evans as Schneider and Schultz broke my heart. A real stand out was Ismael Sotto as Ernst. What a fine actor for such a young man. Kost is sometimes played for mostly comedic value, but Cathie Sheridan's portrayal of a hard working, conniving, nazi sympathizer with a voice that cuts to the back wall during Tomorrow Belongs to Me made for a powerful end for ACT 1. Her German verse of Married was stunning. Collapse

      CABARET, Now playing at the PALACE THEATER in Georgetown is an absolute MUST to see. This is a wonderful old theater that has been remodeled to stage these wonderful plays. JOSH Wechsler, who played the MC was absolutely outstanding, his voice, his dancing and acting were superb. Watch for him, he’s going places. Then there is CATHIE Sheridan who plays the “lady of the evening” whom all the sailors want to be with, has the most beautiful voice. She is simply awe inspiring. The entire cast has done a wonderful job. Cabaret at Georgetown Palace Theater is a must see! Bring your friends - trust me they will thank you. Collapse

      I first saw Cabaret last August, and it quickly became one of my favorite musicals. Georgetown Palace's production did it justice and did not leave me disappointed. Set in the Kit Kat Klub in Germany in 1929, Cabaret tells the story of the American expatriate author Clifford Bradshaw, as he falls in love with a regular club dancer, Sally Bowles. Bradshaw is disturbed by the dark political tide sweeping Germany, and struggles to find a way to balance his convictions with his new relationship. Interspersing this story are musical numbers narrated by the Emcee, who I think is one of the most fascinating characters in all of American musical theatre. Josh Weshler plays the part beautifully, with masterful acting and magnetic facial expressions. Matt Burnett and Chelea Duvall have great chemistry as Bradshaw and Bowles, and all of the cast brings the story to life. Cabaret is a thought-provoking musical, and the production at the Georgetown Palace is one you won't want to miss. Collapse

      A short drive to Georgetown transports you over to Europe and back in time with The Palace Theater’s performance of Cabaret. The Kit Kat Klub girls stroll up the aisles to set the mood, then join Josh Weschler (in his Palace debut as the emcee) to open the show with Willkommen, welcoming one and all to the seedy, little niteclub. The show’s latest import, Sally Bowles, is about to take the stage – and does she ever! Chelsea DuVall will blow you away during her numbers – her vocal expertise and operatic experience are beautifully showcased in Maybe This Time and of course, Cabaret. The show is wonderfully done, the costumes are appropriate for the show and era – but be aware – this is not a kid’s show. The sexual content, political issues, and revealing lingerie of the showgirls are all a part of the original musical – and none is left out in this show. That being said – don’t miss the opportunity to come to the Kit Kat Klub (The Palace Theater) and experience Cabaret for yourself Collapse
