      di[verge] is an admirable original play from Susie Gidseg and the Vestige Group, tracking the potential divergent lives of one woman, making a choice. There is much to enjoy in this production -- delicate performances from the 2 main actresses (and strong singing to boot), beautiful original music and a languid atmosphere of hazy projections, silhouettes and fragments of thought. Many scenes within the play ring truthful and raise interesting, emotional questions about the directions of our lives. Sometimes I wondered whether the "glimpse of moments" style of storytelling forced the play to be skimpy with tangible, mysterious life detail, replaced instead with instantly recognizable types (the divergent lives are named "Housewife" and "Starlet", to give an example), but the creators commit themselves fully to the framework they've established, and that's what counts. Support strong original Austin theater and see di[verge]! Collapse

      Di[verge] if you missed this play you missed a very strong performance by Kyle Baker and Evelyn Ladone and Aaron Black. They say that seven moments affect the out come of your life. Have you ever thought about this? The play was written by Susie Gidseg, Evelyn LaLonde and Andrew Varenhorst and directed by Susie Gidseg. The musician was Paul Szent-Miklosy. It a very thought provoking play, and one you will not want to miss. Collapse

      Very well acted, di[verge] is an interesting story told with good songs. Which moment in a life will be a defining moment; which choice will change a life forever? The play offers several possible answers. Kylie Baker and Evelyn LaLonde do an excellent job of following their characters' trajectories. Aaron Black is a wonderful foil. I did leave feeling that this was a story told by a young person looking forward as opposed to an older person looking back. I would still recommend this play. Collapse

      di[verge] is a thought provoking and engrossing play about the moments in lives and results of the choices that are made. I enjoyed this cleverly written and well directed production by Susie Gidseg. The actors, Evelyn LaLonde, Kylie Baker, and Aaron Black along with the musician, Paul Szent-Miklosy were able to portray their characters with feeling leading the audience to think about moments and choices in their own lives. Aaron Black portrayed multiple characters with ease. The singing and music were very enjoyable. This is quite a talented group including the production team. The video and light effects, simple staging, costumes, and music/singing helped structure the show as well as provided some surprising and interesting effects (lightness, shadows, the past, floating/blurred memories). I have seen other productions by The Vestige Group, and they have been as unique, intelligent, and well written and performed as this one. Highly recommend this show as well as The Vestige Group.       Yet again Vestige Group produces a play that is visually striking, moving and thought provoking. The performances by Evelyn LaLonde and Kylie Baker are honest and their vocal talents are really quit amazing. The play focuses on one female character who has to make a decision that at the time doesn't seem all that important, but turns into a life changing decision. "Will she or won't she?" is a question that is put to the audience early on. What follows that question leads the audience to follow her on two divergent paths leading to separate but connected journeys. I don't want to give anything more away - just know that the production is full of beauty, not just in the story line but through every component of the production from the set design to the original music. This is a top notch production and is not to be missed. Collapse

      I thoroughly enjoyed this show. Despite a few technical glitches, the flow and rhythm of the show were beautiful. The story was wonderfully thought-provoking, made me think back to those 'moments' of my own life. Projections on three screens set the scene and the mood very well on this very minimalist stage. Beautiful music, excellent voices, and sympathetic characters made this a most enjoyable evening. Collapse

This was my second Muses experience and I found it quite enjoyable and moving. This has officially become one of the yearly things that I do here in Austin!! Collapse

      a historic home in South Austin loaded with secret passageways, upstairs kitchens, outdoor enclaves, a real study overflowing with books, funky-to-chic collectibles and 17 talented actors, performing in several rooms at once to tell the story of the house—or more importantly, its “occupants,” as their relationships are challenged and shift over time. you won’t find out the performance location until you buy the tickets (which you should, right away), and the home’s true-life occupants, who are justifiably proud of its restoration and vintage chic, will welcome you. while awaiting the start of the plays, you’ll mingle on the covered front porch (complete with a swing) with some of the actors, directors, writers and patrons— without any idea which is which. it’s a mystery that unfolds throughout the evening as soon as you walk up the porch steps.
