      The shows at the Hideout never cease to amaze me. This one, in particular, was filled with many fantastical characters and some of my favorite improvisers. The tale of a girl who disobeys her parents and ends up in a world very Alice in Wonder-like. In her voyage she encounters cannibalistic frogs, peanutbutterflies and much more! (This show will be unique each time!) Wonderful improv and a sweet dedication at the end that made the show very meaningful to be in the audience for. I recommend it! Collapse

      First things first: those looking for a night of scantily clad theater might be more surpised by what they don't see than what they actually do. The Hideout Theatre's Live Nude Improv is more of a marketing tool than an actual basis for the show (something the entire theater/live performance community often does to reel in audiences). In fact, the nudity really seemed like an afterthought and something the improviser's felt like they had to squeeze into the last two minutes of the show. However, Hideout certainly offers a fun, unique and interactive night of entertainment for both the participant and spectator and whether you're drawn to the show for the promise of bare bottoms or simply a night of improvisational play, you'll certainly leave having had a great time.       Another great show at The Hideout! I went to their festival jam last weekend and the Threefer on Thursday in preparation for the Live Nude on Saturday. And what fun it was. Live Nude Improv was so quick and clever with a lot of audience participation (seating was in a round) and a lot of laughter. The "director" guides the creative process of staging a play for the hour and based on suggestions from audience members (we are all auditioning btw),the play is then brought to life. It was great to be part of this style of theatre. I was very inspired by it. I would recommend it to anyone that likes spontaneity and surprise. And if I told if there was real nudity in the show, I'd be ruining that element for you so I won't. Collapse

      This was my first improv experience in Austin, and will not be my last. I really enjoyed this show because of the close nature of the space and the happy, non-schlocky nature of the actors. Magic is being created in the Hideout Theatre with the commitment level of the players to not just mugging it up for laughs, but exercising their talents in storytelling.       If you have yet to go to the Hideout to see the amazing improv shows there, I am telling you that now is the time to go. Holy 1960's Batman, Batman is the perfect production to sample Austin's improv scene. I was lucky enough to attend when Tom Booker played the guest villain "Toupee", a little know Batman nemesis who schemes to make everyone in Gotham bald and then sell ridiculously over priced wigs back to the city's citizens. Never before has the city of Gotham needed the caped crusader more. Deano Jones and Kaci Beeler are the perfect as the heroic duo. Don't miss out on next weeks' adventures with the latest surprise improv villain. You won't regret it, I promise you. And I'll leave you with my favorite line of the night: "The Bat Catheter is my least favorite of your Bat-Gadgets, Batman." It is a blast! Don't miss it! Collapse

This past Saturday I was delighted to watch them take on "The Toupee," an evil beauty school drop-out bent on revenge against Gotham’s citizens for shunning his blinding baldness. You can only imagine what hilarity ensued. Even though the show changes week after week, I can tell you that the performers and techs do a marvelous job of making the show flow smoothly, even though they are making it up before your eyes. Even the little stumbles here and there are funny! They are also great at emulating the feel and comedy of the old 1960s Batman. Highlights for me were the comical banter and relationship between Batman and Robin, in addition to simply enjoying watching the improvisers have fun and play out these awesome and silly roles on stage. If you are a fan of the old Batman TV show or of improv comedy, I highly recommend finding out what happens in next week’s "episode!" Collapse

(Unexpected) Coffee shop food and beverages available as you watch the show!! -- How do you review a show that is never the same thing twice? How about by saying it is one of the funniest shows you can see? How about by saying that it has a nostalgia factor for everyone, whether they were an avid viewer of the Adam West Batman or just a casual watcher? How about the fact that the cast of nine performers (+1 guest villain) and the tech crew did an amazing job splicing together a seamless play that actually felt like an old episode of Batman (only longer), regardless of the fact that everything was being made up on the spot? For me, this is a must see show for any lovers of Batman, improv comedy, or both! Funny, enjoyable, and many references to the old Batman show make this a truly unique experience, even if their chairs could use a comfy upgrade. Collapse

      What is real and what is not, and does it matter who T. Henry Baudecliffe really is? Not when he has left behind such "fractured, fantastical" stories and drawings and the actors at the Hideout improvise upon these themes. You feel as though you are in the mind of T. Henry and seeing the world as he did, even though you have just met him (so to speak). An evening well spent on many layers. Excellent work by the Hideout. Collapse
