With two locations to welcome our city and its visitors, the Austin Museum of Art presents an array of art experiences in the fun, informal, and collaborative spirit of Austin: AMOA-Downtown and AMOA-Laguna Gloria.
Reflecting the unconventional spirit of Austin, AMOA-Downtown offers informative and informal art experiences oriented towards the interests of a broad general audience. The welcoming and centrally located galleries serve as the Museum’s primary exhibition site and present continually changing exhibitions and education programs that showcase an array of twentieth-century and contemporary art.  As the Museum’s original home, AMOA-Laguna Gloria is a monument to our long-standing commitment to the community—offering a unique experience of history, art, and nature. Home to The Art School, it also rovides a tranquil setting for private parties and community gatherings year-round.

      If you are at all in love with mid century modern design, and who isn't these days, you will totally enjoy wallowing amongst the pioneers of style in this retrospective of beautiful and functional design. The opening reception was sweet with lovely canapes and even some jello treats. Music from the 60's wafted amongst the revelers from a dj in the corner, and the mood was festive. The exhibit itself is splendid with lots to read from the many boards that explain the origins of Mid Century Modern design. The furniture examples are sleek, clean, and you even can test drive some of the new chairs that are being designed today. Well worth a visit. Collapse

      There is much variety in this exhibition. AMOA has chosen 15 (from 350) creative artists to display works ranging from self portraits to use of objects and mixed media. I enjoyed many of the works... Expand

      There is much variety in this exhibition. AMOA has chosen 15 (from 350) creative artists to display works ranging from self portraits to use of objects and mixed media. I enjoyed many of the works especially the humorous, hybrid animal sculptures made from old ceramic figurines by Debra Broz and the stirring, pale ash-embossed prints memorializing people who have died in border violence by Miguel A. Aragon. Ian Ingram's intricate self portraits composed of charcoal, pastel, and attached objects, such as butterflies and embroidery are full of emotion. Several of the artists displayed unique, interesting photographs. Of less interest to me, but I am sure appreciated by others are the videos, installation works, and performance art. Much talent and work went into this eclectic exhibition by the AMOA staff and the artists. Everyone will find many pieces to enjoy, discover, and ponder. Collapse

      I am a big fan or printmaking, so I was really excited to see this show. I loved how the subject matter was so different from artist to artist. I really enjoyed the mix of the prints of people or political messages mashed up with some really traditional subject matter, like Hercules and the Hydra. Some of the plates, and a lot of the printmaking tools were on display, too, so it was really interesting to see those along with the prints they produced. Collapse

      My oldest friend invited me to go with her to La Dolce Vida. Boy was I glad that she did. I was having a really stressful week and I was looking forward to spending the evening with her but I had no idea how much fun I was going to have. We get there pick up our plates and wine glasses and start right away for the nearest wine booth. We started filling our plates with all kinds of yummy things and before we knew it we were so full! We loved the photo booth by Annie Ray - super fun - and the liquor tasting area was quite a treat. By the end of the evening we were so glad to find the booth with the coffee! The night was so great, the weather was perfect and the food was just divine. By the end of the evening I had a sunnier disposition and was feeling great. I can't wait for next year! Collapse

      This was my first ever experience at La Dolce Vita and I have to say it was one of the best experiences I've ever had. I was blown away by the shear size of the event. I knew it would be big but this was so much more than I could have expected. Upon entering the grounds I was greeted by one of the anonymous performers in a bright red body suit. It was difficult to decide which direction to go in. So many booths with all kinds of food and wine to try. From the Frito Pie by Ranch 616 to the incredible Saag Paneer from Taj Palace, I was just in heaven. I filled up on food and drink and I only hit about a 1/4 of the booths. I know that next year I'll pace myself, take more time wandering the grounds of Laguna Gloria and maybe even spend some time on the dance floor. I highly recommend attending. It was a night I'll never forget! Collapse

      After seeing and loving the Chris Jordan exhibit, I was highly anticipating the fashion show that was going to be inspired by his exhibit! And I was not disappointed. We have such talented talented designers here in Austin. The show was fantastic! The only critisim I would have is that for future shows, there should be more of a script for the host. Otherwise it was so well worth it!!! Brava AMoA and Keep Austin Beautiful! Collapse
