Now in its second season, Ensemble Settecento is an Austin-based ensemble dedicated to presenting historically-informed performances of musical works from the 17th and 18th centuries. At its core, Ensemble Settecento aims to explore and present Renaissance, Baroque, and Classic-era compositions, in the process simultaneously entertaining and educating their audiences. With programming that is both innovative as well as carefully researched by artistic director Billy Traylor, the ensemble seeks to expose aficionados and newcomers alike in and around Central Texas to the wonderful world of early music.Formed in the spring of 2011, the ensemble has grown to feature strings, winds, and vocalists. This full instrumentation allows for a wide and diverse range of music, from a cappella Renaissance motets to large-scale Baroque cantatas, and from chamber music to larger orchestral works. The ensemble actively seeks to promote early music and welcomes interested musicians and music students from time to time to perform alongside the members of the ensemble.
