      The Chaotic Theatre Company's performance of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged is hilarious. I was expecting to find it amusing, but it was beyond expectation funny! The three man cast did a superb job of engaging and entertaining the audience. The first half of the performance covered Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, the lumped comedies, sonnets, and more. The second half was devoted to Hamlet. Having recently seen the "real" Hamlet at Winedale, it was of particular interest to me, and particularly funny. Chaotic Theatre's parody of Shakespeare's Hamlet is priceless - the long, the short, and the backwards versions. Good job cast and crew! Collapse

      Works damned hard if you ask me. These actors must be absolutely exhausted after each performance. They move non-stop at lightning speed generating laughter that makes the audience ache. This is some good baudy theatre the Bard would love more than anyone else. It's a great show for teens/preteens as well, so they can see firsthand that Bill wrote his plays for the common man, and not the highbrow set. "Complete Works" isn't merely a race either, we get some great insight into the times and the playwright himself. The timing of these guys is impeccable, and they seem to have just as much fun as the audience. Be prepared to participate a bit without feeling put on the spot. The artists know what they're doing and they don't just phone it in. This is a great venue, a great show, and a grand time thou shalt experience. Collapse

      Pros: Laugh out loud uproarious! Cons: Not for those who want to see Shakespeare done "right." Unexpected: Props all over the place! Looking for a nice night out with one of the Bard's plays? Then this is NOT FOR YOU!!! But, if you want hilarity, zaniness, and the downright unspeakable horror that is trying to cover all of Shakespeare's work in and hour and half, then this play is for you! It is truly a must see for any Shakespeare fan, but especially for those who can't stand a normal Shakespeare performance. Three men, one stage covered in props (as they just leave everything they bring onstage on the stage), and all the Bard's plays... if you wanna see how it's done, then by all means see this show. Oh, and as a hint from someone who loves The Complete Works of Shakespeare Abridged, if you really like the show, go to a DVD store afterwards and buy the DVD of the show's original writers performing it! This is a show as classic as the material it is based on! What are you waiting for? Collapse

      Chaotic Theatre Company's production of "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)" kept me smiling and laughing throughout the performance! This play really keeps the actors on their toes with timing and the need for energy and enthusiasm, all of which these three gentleman had. The actors looked as if they were enjoying being silly and having fun on stage rather than playing parts. I don’t want to ruin anything for anyone who hasn’t seen this before, but I will say you get to see a rather gory cooking show, hear some pretty awesome singing (including Disney and rap), see men dressed as women, hear “authentic” Scottish accents, see tons of props thrown around the stage (I kept worrying someone would trip, there were so many), and the audience gets to participate in playing one of Shakespeare’s character’s Id, Ego, Superego, and unconscious. If you have never seen this play, I highly recommend seeing this excellent production! Collapse

      I love it when a performance group takes the task of putting up a show and amps it up to a whole different level. I won't give anything away, but as an audience you'll be experiencing a lot that the actors are dealing with, and it makes this production of No Exit that much more intense. Each player in this four-person cast has the chops to bring a new vitality to Sartre's 1944 exercise in existentialism with great energy and care. Plus the use of the space in the Blue Theater is both creative and interactive. I am very much looking forward to what Chaotic Theatre has to offer Austin in the future! Collapse

      Upon entering the Blue Theater I was slightly creeped-out, but entirely intrigued by the greeting that awaited me. The pre-show treatment of "No Exit" by Choatic Theater Co. certainly put me in the right state of mind for what I was about to experience. And while the ten minutes leading up to the show were filled with eager expectation, what followed simply didn't hold the same standard. Though the set was striking and the storyline intriguing, Choatic has chosen not to air condition the stage for its show, perhaps to put the audience in a similar purgatory as the characters onstage.       I was excited to see Satre's victims tear each other apart for two hours on Sunday at the Blue Theatre. The set and characters were modern, and the acting was decent, with the two female characters outshining the others. This is a play worth seeing for Satre's great script alone. However, the director of this production has taken a creative license that I feel went a bit far. There is no air-conditioning and no visible exit for audience members. These facts alone were enough to take me away from my enjoyment of the play. Collapse

      The entrance to the Theater is through the antechamber of Purgatory – once arrived – the set is stark. The costumes are fitting – the cast is outstanding. Three characters who have absolutely nothing in common (brought in one after the other by the valet) The energy between the characters is almost palpable – as they are trying to determine where they are; why they ended up in this particular place in this particular company – an exercise in self justification follows. They come to the conclusion that they are each others punishment for eternity – that “hell is other people” and there is no Exit. This is an outstanding staging of a challenging play not to be missed. Collapse
