    Holier Than Thou The Off Center Holier Than Thou Presented by Poison Apple Initiative at The Off Center June 20-July 6, 2013 A while ago we workshopped a play.       Poison Apple Initiative presents Housebreaking in which the audience is up close and let into the life of the homeless. Act 1 is very engaging and draws you into the unfolding of the plot and the drama. Making you wonder what Chad played by Juston Street expects from the homeless Carmine played by Sam Mercer to reveal about his chosen life on the street. Act 2 has many twists and turns in the plot and leaves some unanswered questions regarding the reactions in the family members. All of the cast did a fine job with the production. The venue had some logistic issues such as seating area has a pole blocking patrons on house right. Restroom was on the set and patrons only had access at certain times . I would recommend this play as an important piece that addresses the issue of homelessness and it's reaction that family members may have when it shows up in their own home. Collapse

      Woyzeck – written by George Büchner (1813-37) and published posthumously was the first German play portraying members of the working class as main characters. This is a “shoestring production” of the play – but is quite well done. The cast worked well together (and appeared to have fun doing it) Both the Doctor and Maria deserve special mention (as does the puppet - curious? Go see). The original score for the play fit the scenes well and was occasionally reminiscent of a cabaret score – however, at times the sound quality was not as it should have been (due to the acoustics of the venue) Since this play is not staged very often, take the opportunity to go see it. Enjoy! (enjoy the free beer that goes with the ticket) Collapse

      Where to start. This collection of short plays by Mr. Carboni was not an engaging or insightful night of theatre that I had hoped for. The capable cast cannot overcome the weakness of the text and vision of the piece. I went in really excited to see a new piece of theatre, but these plays need a lot more development. Collapse
