Of all the female martial artists who made their marks in the classic widescreen kung fu explosion of the ‘70s my favorite is the beautiful and deadly Polly Shang Kuan. Not even Angela Mao could compete with Polly’s seemingly effortless displays of force and elegance. This is one of the few films that places Polly in a modern setting - she often played a mysterious roaming swordswoman or avenging sister absurdly disguised in male drag. Her starpower lights the way here in this urban crime film which fortunately features fight after fight - with Polly kicking bad guys through the air, ably assisted by her rock star samurai boyfriend Shoji Kurata. All the while Focus’ prog-rock anthem “Hocus Pocus” blares on the soundtrack. Featuring all the bad dubbing, stock villains and ridiculous “ping pong paddle on naugahyde sofa” punch and kick sound effects you’ve come to expect from the genre. (Lars) Helpful Information: All patrons must be 18 years or older or be accompanied by a parent. Children under 6 are not admitted at any time.
