Sikkil Gurucharan is a rising star among young musicians in the Carnatic style of Indian Classical music that is popular in South India (and different from the Hindustani style prevalent in the North, though the classical bases of both systems are the same). Gurucharan is a gifted vocalist and has accomplished much despite being a professional musician for only the last five years. Carnatic music is a field where tens of years of experience are required to gain the skill and mastery of one’s craft that then leads to the respect of one’s peers and the adulation of listeners. Gurucharan is well on his way to achieving that goal years, and probably decades before several of his peers and predecessors in the field. Event Location: Jones Auditorium
