Jill considers the show not to be a record of a year’s production but rather of a year’s worth of learning. “There will be a really variety of work. In some pieces I really pushed the idea of breaking down what I was seeing into core components and then isolating certain elements. Some are simple, raw, abstracted fast plein air studies of just flat planes of color – I have always dabbled with abstracting the landscape, motivated more then anything by wishing to see and understand more accurately the separate elements of what I am looking at. In the more representational works I think there is a greater sense of design than in my earlier works and there will be much larger pieces too than in previous shows; I am really enjoying the thrill of working on larger canvases en plein air with all the challenges that it brings!”
