Theatre Communications Group (TCG) and Austin Circle of Theaters (ACoT) are pleased to announce that the third annual Free Night of Theater, the unprecedented campaign to attract new audiences to live theatre, will open across the country on Thursday, October 18, 2007. Theatre-goers from coast to coast will be given the opportunity to attend performances being presented by over 700 theaters free of charge. In Austin, where there are no shortage of event for patrons to choose from, ACoT extends Free Night of Theater for an entire month! Austin Circle of Theaters was selected by Theatre Communications Group to be one of only three cities in the country to pioneer this effort two years ago. Austin's theater community couldn't be more excited. Ann Ciccolella, former Managing Director of ZACH, current Artistic Director Austin Shakespeare Festival comments, 'Inviting new audiences to the theater is one of the best actions we can take. FREE Night is a big audacious gesture, and I can testify that it works. New people come, love it and return.' ACoT's Executive Director Latifah Taormina is also pleased that Austin is participating once again, commenting, 'The Free Night of Theatre program is stunningly audacious and captivatingly simple: Open the doors of our theatres for free to new audience members.' She continues, 'Our theater community continues to be incredibly generous with their tickets and, if the past is any indication, these tickets will be reserved very quickly.'
