With a layered perspective, these two artists come together to present works that wrestle with the nature and structure of our world. Fluid abstract paintings compliment precise structural sculptures in the works by Ian Cion and Carter Cox. This exhibit playfully questions the boundaries that science and nature have in our everyday lives. The mediums provoke an inquiry of scale - from the cellular to the celestial – these two artists investigate the intricate web of our world. Cox builds a sizable tetrahedron structure out of ordinary objects. Athletic gymnasium kick balls, five gallon plastic buckets and zip ties are transformed into a striking sculptural mathematical system that grapples with the universal ideals of scientific inquiry. Cox pairs this intrepid installation with similar shaped objects but drastically contrasts their scale and medium. Cion’s paintings pulse as colors, shapes, patterns and hints of architectural details ebb and flow. Archeological layers come through to the watery surfaces, suggesting hidden civilizations just beyond our reach. These two artists confront the ideas of play and curiosity while digging deeper into the biological and psychological realms of the everyday. Artist's Talk There will be an Artist's Talk for this exhibition on October 27 at 3:00pm.
