The Constant Wife
June 22-July 14, 2007
Add Review/CommentDifferent Stages continues its 2006-2007 season with W. Somerset Maugham’s comedy The Constant Wife at The Vortex. An exceedingly witty and well-crafted comedy of manners, The Constant Wife opened to great acclaim in 1926. When Constance Middleton discovers that her husband is having an affair with her best friend, she sets about turning bad luck, unfaithful friends, local gossip, and a broken heart to her own advantage. Best known for his novels Of Human Bondage and The Razor’s Edge, W. Somerset Maugham was also an enormously clever and successful playwright. In fact, The Constant Wife has been compared to “Oscar Wilde at his sharpest.”
