Joe is trying to get his musical off the ground, but can't make it happen with all the interruptions of his mother as she dominates his life. Depicted as only a shadow, the mother overshadows her son's life. Enter Fear, personified and honed to an evil gloss as he drives Joe and all of his cohorts into regret, loss, and confusion. Ultimately the lot cry out for Hope who arrives and gets about fixing things in her mother earth matronly way. Ultimately Hope and Fear make a bet that Fear can't keep his grasp on Joe and the games afoot. This piece examines life in the urban dwellers psyche today, and emphasizes that we all must have Hope.
