Rashid Khan has big shoes to fill, as the great grandson of the legendary Ustad Inayat Hussain Khan, the founder of the Rampur Gharana (school of music). Rashid Khan was born in Badaun, a small town in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The river which flows by the town was a witness to the number of hours Rashid spent by its side singing, as he mastered his voice and tuned it to exploit the subtleties of Hindustani (North Indian classical) music to his advantage (and to his listeners’ eventual delight).
