A drama of great tenderness, poignancy and beauty, The Glass Menagerie is one of the most celebrated works of the American theatre. Set in St. Louis in the 1930's, Tennessee Williams’ classic memory play explores the lives of the frustrated yet determined Amanda Wingfield, a faded Southern belle; her poetic, melancholy son Tom, who narrates the play as he yearns to escape; and her painfully withdrawn daughter Laura. Hinging upon a single night in which the promise of a long- anticipated “Gentleman Caller” sets both dreams and disappointment into motion, The Glass Menagerie established Williams among the rank of major 20th-century playwrights.
