Martin, a successful architect just turned fifty, leads an ideal life with his loving wife and teenage son. When he confides to his best friend that has found a new love, everyone must deal with the consequences. This savage and funny Tony Award-winning drama is three-time Pulitzer Prize winner Edward Albee’s most provocative and controversial play since 'Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?'       I was going to a play about bestiality—of course it would be weird and disturbing, but not shocking. What I wasn't expecting was the emotional depth and sympathy that the main characters would evoke. It wasn't just a play about the consequences of infidelity with a goat. Tom Chamberlain's performance hit deeper than that. It was a play about our primal urges and how they creep into the modern notion of love, with or without our permission. Sympathy for the beast within was the shock. The voyeuristic quality of the intimate venue also added to the discomfort of the story. Faced with the passionate performances of Tom Chamberlain and Rebecca Robinson, the audience had to be ever mindful not to laugh too loud, squirm in their seats, or croak out a whisper of advice. The story was compelling, but it was these two brilliant performances that pulled me into their experience. Collapse

      Albee's Pulitzer-winning comic tragedy is given a worthy staging by a talented local ensemble. The merriment and hilarity of the opening scene gives way to complete emotional upheaval, as an exposed secret brings down a marriage and a whole family. Tom Chamberlain shines in a complex and tricky leading role, as a man of intelligence and charm who is suffering great perplexion at his own actions and feelings. Fans of the theater should not miss this entertaining and almost luridly mesmerizing show. Collapse

      This is one of the best plays I've seen in Austin in years. All the actors were spectacular, each one of them brought something unique to the production. Edward Albee is a great writer and the actors really seem to understand what he's trying to say. The actor playing Martin is so good, I found myself rooting for him......why is this odd you may wonder? It's worth going to see to find out. Collapse

      My exposure to this play began when my husband e-mailed me a link to the play and commented, "This looks strange, but I think we should see it." He was right on both counts. Not being in an artistic profession myself, I don't really have the vocabulary to say any of the intelligent things that should be said about this production. However, I can say that it is a true joy to watch, despite the difficult subject matter, and among an excellent cast, Tom Chamberlain deserves special recognition for a superb performance. Just go see it already! Collapse
