Carnal, bloody and unnatural acts. Hamlet provides an intense exploration of what it means to be human. It is a tale that takes us into the depths of a disturbing, corrupt and damaged world - a world of spies and manipulations, where truth is hidden in the shadows. The youth of the world are left searching for meaning in an abandoned and desolate landscape. Who can be trusted? Is there hope when the world seems so dark? Presented is Shakespeare's great play in a tight and clever cutting by guest artist Jennifer Ross Nostrala. Professor Nostrala heads the Division of Visual and Performing Arts at Iowa's Simpson College and returns to Austin, where she received her M.F.A. in Directing at The University of Texas in 1988. Performed by an ensemble of eight actors, VORTEX's Hamlet features Zach Pettichord as Hamlet and Michelle Flanagan as Ophelia. Both of these actors trained with VORTEX as teenagers in the award-winning Summer Youth Theatre program, and VORTEX proudly welcomes them back in these pivotal roles. VORTEX Repertory Company members Mick D'arcy and Lorella Loftus are featured as Claudius and Gertrude. Michele Goodson- Burnett plays Polonius/Doctor of Divinity and Wade Williams plays Laertes/Rosencrantz, with Evelyn LaLonde as Guildenstern/Marcellus and Marc Frost as Horatio. Helpful Information: ASL Interpreted Friday, March 9 at 8:00pm.
