50 years ago we performed our first concert, Requiem. Today, we recreate that event. Known as Ein Deutsches Requiem, Brahms chose not to set a traditional liturgical text, nor to focus on the terror of the last judgment; instead, the composer selected his own passages from scripture. Using the Luther translation of the Bible, the adjective ‘deutsches’ simply refers to the language employed (not Latin).
