Ensemble VIII, a select group of the country’s most talented early music vocalists, will present Handel’s complete Messiah under the direction of nationally renowned conductor Dr. James Morrow on Dec. 21 and 22. Both concerts will be held in the spectacular setting of Austin’s St. Louis Catholic Church Chapel at 7:30 p.m. Instrumentalists from Houston’s Mercury (formerly Mercury Baroque) will accompany singers from Ensemble VIII.
The concerts will recreate the sounds of Messiah performances in Handel’s day through the use of period instruments at “low pitch,” including Baroque strings, oboes, bassoon, and natural trumpets. With 30 singers and players, the ensemble will reflect the scope and character of Handel’s own performances.
