A new farmers’ market from Sustainable Food Center is coming to Austin's east side!
Opening day of the market, March 20, will host more than a dozen farmers including vegetable, fruit, egg, cheese, meat and honey farmers. Prepared food and drink vendors will also showcase their products for attendees. Children’s activities include planting take-home seedlings, a Little Kitchen cooking session, face painting, a farm animal petting pen, and more such as hula-hooping in the YMCA sports field.
The grand opening will feature live music and a demonstration from Chef Alma Alcocer-Thomas of El Alma Bar y Restaurante. Also, there will be produce tastings along with recipe demonstrations by The Happy Kitchen/La Cocina Alegre™.
The new market will be open year-round on Tuesdays, 10 am to 1 pm. The market provides a shaded picnic area, playground and plenty of free parking.
